Greetings fellow nerds, I have a question.

I'm new to the whole idea of upgrading/customizing PCs and I'm looking for a cheap but decent gaming rig hopefully with the capacity to mine litecoin (tell me if you think that's a bad idea).
I already have a:
CiT Vantage case (brand new)
Ancient crappy 220w power supply
DVD Super-Multi optical drive
4GB of 240-pin DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz RAM
And a 1TB hard disk- couldn't find brand/type

I am looking to get an AMD A10 6800k APU and some more RAM, possibly a graphics card for crossfiring and of course a motherboard. I have goolged till I could google no more about this but I can't find anything. Any extra info you need just ask, and I will be stunningly grateful for any helpful answers. Thanks in advance.

You just need to find a motherboard with the socket that the A10 uses which i think is FM2.

Also please throw away that power supply, and get a corsair cx500, its low budget friendly

Sorry but your PSU just wont cut it.

These are just my suggestions without a price you have in mind and based on what I have had that works very well and has good reliability.

If you give me a price I can work around that but the brands I have chosen are some of the best in their markets.

If you want better litecoin mining you can upgrade to a R9 290 which will do 800KH/s which is pretty high end for litecoin. Mining litecoin is not bad but it is only worth it if you plan to run the system 24x7 in that case I would upgrade the PSU to a Corsair AX760 for the best efficiency and reliability.

If I need 24/7 for mining then screw that. And my price (I hope) is below £180 (~$300). Oh dear. And does everyone agree with nodsterr's motherboard? It look like it'll work. Also, I meant 5800k, does that change anything?

Yea that's a low amount to work with and gaming will be very hard to do. The 5800K doesn't change the socket. I personally am not a fan of MSI but some of their stuff is ok.

Honestly to do what you want you will need a bit more than $300ish even if you just do onboard graphics cuz you really need a new PSU.

Right I'm going with (so far)
APU: AMD A10 5800k
Motherboard: BIOSTAR A85W
PSU: Corsair CX500
RAM: Aren't you not supposed to not mix brands of RAM, like with batteries?
Graphics card: It's my lowest priority and I want it for >$90 so I'll do a it more research. One thing, are all graphics cards compatible with all motherboards and CPUs? If not, how do you tell if it is?
