Im planning to get MSI GeForce GTX 770. At the moment i have NVIDIA GeForce Gt 240. I was wondering if the socket would still fit my current motherboard (oh and i also am new to this, so i dont know how to figure out what my motherboard is) ?

Solution
hmm so your CPU is an LGA775 socket, and as far as i know you can fit the GTX 770, however it will get bottlenecked because the CPU and motherboard are considered to be quite old. so you wont get the most out of the GPU.

I dont know what your situation is, but if you have about 500-600$ you could get a new CPU, Motherboard, and GPU which will last you the next few years.

basically, you shouldn't go spending money on any newer GPU, unless you get a newer, faster CPU and motherboard.

hope this helps.

I tried looking inside, but i cant find the name ! Does it have a specific place ? Also, it dosent show up on system information.
My current CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)

Yhea, so basically, i am planning to slowly replace all of my pc components and i decided to begin with my graphics card since it was the worst thing on my pc and i dont know if that was such a great idea! Maybe you can give me advice on what to begin with ? and im looking for something within the range of 400 dollars.

ok well there could be a solution with 400$ but i need info like the size of your PSU (power supply) 500W? 750W?

But we can start with a good motherboard:

CPU:

GPU:

This setup would be pretty decent for around 440$
However this is all based on Intel and Nvidia, which IMO is more stable than AMD components, but you could probably get a slightly better performing computer for less with all AMD components.

THis would be the AMD components if you are to choose this option:

CPU:

Motherboard:
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-M5A97-R2-0-SATA-Motherboard/dp/B008V9959O/ref=pd_sim_pc_1

GPU:
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-R7-260X-DisplayPort-PCI-Express/dp/B00FR6XOQO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1388510240&sr=1-1&keywords=MSI+Radeon+R7+260X

This setup even though i hate to admit would be better because your CPU would have 6 cores and the GPU is slightly better.
Also, the cost would come up to about 390$

Ultimately you would have to get some new RAM as well, but that can be bought very cheap on newegg.

Hope this helps!
