Cheapest way to get Windows

I'm building my own computer and of course need an operating system, I want Windows 7 (or 8 but 7 is probably cheaper) and I have a college email account so I can get the student discount but I'm not eligible for Microsoft DreamSpark premium so I can't get it for free.
Does anyone know of a cheap way to get myself a copy of Windows 7/8?

Try your college bookstore, if you are still attending school and have a student ID. My daughters did that while in college, but the price varied quite a bit depending on what school they went to. One got Windows 7 Academic for $25, another for $50. Both were good deals.

hmm.. i hesitate to say this but... cheapest way would be TPB... but that's illegal so I would urge you to contact someone in college, maybe the IT guys and see if they can't wrangle up a deal
