Try installing Nvidia GeForce experience and downloading the driver from inside that software. Make sure you have the Nvidia control panel, and from in there set the preferred video device to "High performance Nvidia..." Also make sure the correct drivers are installed for the intel graphics. You can find drivers for the Intel graphics on a "Utilities" disk that should have been included with your laptop.

Sounds like you need to update your drivers. Go the the Nvidia drivers download section, there's a drop-down menu to select your GPU, the GT540m is definately in it as I downloaded drivers for a friends laptop a week ago. It's a fairly big download, but once it's done just run the installer, it should patch the Nvidia control panel. If the problem persists, try deleting the Nvidia Corporation folders in both Programme files, and Programme Files x86 (x86 is only on 64-Bit windows). After deleting these folders, try installing the drivers again.

Facing the same problem too. D Nvidia card doesn't show up on d Device Manager. When I tried to re-unstall d driver, it shows that it cannot detect any Nvidia GPU hardware.
It's seems d nvidia GPU has failed completely from my assumption. And I think that's one issue with that Nvidia dedicated GPU. It fails most times. Mine has failed like 3 times but I keep solving d problem by re- pasting d thermal paste but this time, it not responding anymore.
