Hi,

Happy new year all.

I have an issue lately (this happened suddenly), as follows:

PROBLEM:
When I turn off the pc and I try to turn back on again pressing the power button, I have to press more than one time, or keep it pressed or a combination of the previous actions in order to get the thing going. This doesn’t happen ALL the time, but most of the time. Like 7 out of 10 times.

Also, after the computer finally turns on with the method of keeping the power button pressed, sometimes I get a corrupted BIOS (I use UEFI) error and an automatic BIOS scan. After that the PC starts. Without being an expert I don’t think the BIOS is corrupted, I think this is a result of the power button pressing /failure to startup the machine.

ACTIONS TAKEN:
I have changed the CMOS battery with a new one as I thought this was what was wrong but to no avail. I also tried to switch the pc on with one of the DRAMs out, then the other one, I switched their positions, nothing again.

Now, the pc is fully updated with drivers for vga, mobo, etc., and also OK on windows update. I don’t know if the PSU is the issue, but it doesn’t “feel” to be as everything works perfectly when the computer turns on.

Can it be just a problem of the power button (I opened the hood, everything seems in place)? Can it be sleep/hibernation issues? VGA thing? Keep in mind this problem happened from one day to the next, without me changing any software/hardware on the machine!!! My money is on sleep/hibernation issues or a BIOS setting, though, again, without being an expert, the BIOS settings seem fine to me, including the power options.

Any help appreciated. This is very frustrating!

SPECS:
Windows 8.1 (same problem when I reverted back to windows 7)
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
Mobo: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68A-D3H-B3
SSD: 111GB OCZ-AGILITY3
PSU: Corsair 750w
VGA: 1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 6800
RAM: 2x DDR3 total 8GB
I use a Logitech wireless keyboard (k700) and a wired Logitech mouse (no drivers for either).

Edit: I took the PC back to where i bought it from and it seems the PC Tower controller (mainly for the fans but also where the power button is) was faulty. This as they said was only affecting the fan rotation so they disconnected a cable for one of the fans that was not working well. They said that the power button is not affected by the faulty controller, however can they be wrong?

I would try starting the computer by jumping the leads that the power button plugs into. If you can start everytime by jumping the leads, then it would be the power button that is the issue.
