I have been trying to connect a Canon printer to my home network. The printer recognizes the network, the connection is Active, but the router is not assigning an IP address to it. I tried re-entering password, rebooting router several times to reconnect printer. I don't have a cable handy and was hoping to avoid buying one, but out of ideas. The router successfully recognizes several computers and Apple TV, so this is a bit surprising. Ideas welcome. Not a network expert but on hold with TWC so I have loads of time.

You'll find everything you need there. First is to make sure that the encryption set on the access point is supported by the printer. Once you've done that you have to enter the correct SSID and password/passphrase for your wireless network. Do not attempt to set a static IP address at this time, leave the printer in DHCP mode.

Update: A thought. You're not, by any chance hiding your SSID are you? If so, unhide it.

Sorry for insufficient detail. Brand new Canon MG7120, and yes, I am trying to connect it wirelessly. I can detail info on computer (PC Windows7, downloaded the drivers direct from Canon when CD did not work, verified that network SSID of computer same as printer) but that seems sort of irrelevant since the printer itself (in its tools screen) has no IP address. I was on the phone with Canon for quite some time but they say it is a router problem. I thought it might be because I had entered the network password incorrectly in the printer setup but did that twice.

Provided by TWC. It says Arris TG852. I tried manually entering in an IP address myself in the printer settings, but then it also wanted a subnet mask or something and I did not know what to put for that. As you can see I am not a computer networker. Is there a standard number I can enter?
