Tried with battery in/out with AC power. I have tried it without hard drive and with two other hard drives, one with windows 7 and one with no OS.

The drive with windows 7 shuts down just after the loading windows screen with the flag.

The drive with nothing on says bootmng is missing (which I am formatting at the moment.

When its got no drive in and I am in BIOS, it shuts down after about 5 minutes.

Tried testing the RAM, they have no problems.

Should I get some thermal past and some alcohol wipes or is it something different?

Very peculiar...
This may take some effort to diagnose.
You could presume it is the CPU that is protecting itself by shutting the system of, so that is one thing to try.

Seems safe to say it is hardware related.
Maybe a fan is not operating?
Blow the dust out of the vents thoroughly to ensure proper cooling.

Bad battery, or AC adapter?
Pretty difficult to test that if you don't have an extra AC adapter with the same voltage ratings laying around.

If its having the same symptoms with the battery out, then you can rule out the battery being an issue as well.

When you turn it on, does the bottom of the laptop get really hot before it turns on?
I've had this issue with an AMD laptop before. But that was resolved with just cleaning out the vents.
If you've narrowed it down as far as you can without a complete dis assembly, that may be the next step is to check heat syncs.

Got somewhere, managed to get on to windows 7 by change the core for using 2 to now using 1. That core however is at 45c , Thats strange, since I would think it would be about 80-90 when it turns off.

I found that its the battery which is causing the problem, it is fine when theres no battery in and AC-Adapter is plugged in. CPU running around 38-42 c. .... Not a bad buy for £50 for a duel core laptop ;)
