What is wrong with my PC?

I recently got back a motherboard that was bad. When I installed it I wired everything myself ( I could of missed something). The first couple of start ups it would power on for half a second and then turn off. When it finally stayed on I connected everything else. But nothing works (monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power button). I have tried a different graphics card, different RAM, the motherboard is new, and I have no idea what is causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Anytime the computer powers on, and within seconds it turns off, there is usually a short somewhere. Check the RAM, CPU, power connections, mobo (not shorting out), PCI cards, etc. To power on, you must have CPU, mobo, RAM and a GPU - some PSUs require that a hard drive be connected as well.

Let me answer that for Bruce (after all I have Bruce Campbell as my avatar hehehe). :p

But to answer your question: Nope. You would probably not get a blue screen. If you didn't flash the bios BEFORE installing the new CPU, and especially if that CPU didn't exist at the time the mobo was released, it's perfectly possible that the PC will not boot at all. Blue screens come mostly from bad drivers, but hardware incompatibility is something completely different.

However, if it's a brand new CPU and a brand new mobo, they should work. The situation I was describing above usually happens when you install a newly released CPU (compatible socket) to an older motherboard (like 2 or 3 years old).

But it's really hard to help you if you don't provide any detail at all. We don't even know what hardware you're working with.

In any case, I strongly suggest you take time to read the two step-by-step guides I posted previously before going further.
