saving SSD space

Got a new system with a 120GB SSD boot drive and 1TB HD. Trying to save the space as much as possible on the SSD. Seems a lot of programs want to load on the C drive without my selection (example Adobe). Any input on how to put the HD as a default drive for downloads and "accessory" program installations? Anything in the Bios setup that can be used?

Programs should NOT be automatically forced to be elsewhere. Some you want on the SSD, some on the HDD.

Lucky for you, someone has written a tutorial on exactly this:

Yeah, that was me...:)

Thx USAFRet. Your suggestions look good, and I have started down that path. Just thought there may be a way to set the HDD to default for new software files (games, adobe, etc.) and save the SDD for op files. Thanks again for the help.

For games, specifically Steam and origin...you can designate an alternate default location.
For others...Custom or Advanced.
