I recently built a new computer with the Sabertooth X79 Motherboard and it came shipped with a Bios v1. This wasn't compatible with the latest Intel i7 I had installed and so there was no video output, it wouldn't boot up except.... there was one single red led lit up on the board.

I assumed the worst but I downloaded the latest CAP BIOS from the Asus website (don't get confused with the ROM v CAP info) ... copied the file to a formatted USB stick and renamed the file SABERX79.CAP

If you go here:
http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X79/#support

Click "Drivers & Tools"

I chose Windows 7 (x64)

You will see an option for "BIOS" and if you click the (-) next to that, it will bring up a long list of BIOS versions. I downloaded the latest (4608) and extracted it to a USB.

I then renamed "SABERTOOTH-X79-ASUS-4608.CAP" to "SABERX79.CAP"

With the computer turned off (but plugged in) I plugged the USB disk into the special USB update plug at the back of the computer (highlighted white) and held the button next to it for 3 seconds.

The light started flashing and I waited for it to finish. Done. Bios was updated and the computer turned on.

It is important to let it finish updating and not to interrupt it until it is finished. Asus have manuals on their website on how to do this.

I only write this because the mainboard had the single led light, but there was no hardware fault. It was purely an out of date BIOS.
