I have an MSI motherboard, and it has integrated graphics and an AMD radeon 6450. What i would like to do is run my games and such off of my AMD graphics card and have another monitor running of of the integrated graphics of the mobo. When i plug a monitor into the integrated graphics slot nothing happens. I think i need to activate it somehow but im clueless on how to do this. If someone could please help me out that would be great.

Nope sorry you cant. When you plug a expansion card into your main expansion slot which you be a pcie x16 in your case. It will disable the on-board graphics. I have heard of some x79 chip sets being able to work while having a expansion card plugged it. Yours most probably wont :(

if it an intel chipset motherboard look for primany display in the bios settings in your mb guild. under it should be a line that says muilt monitor support. (auto/disabled). check to see if it set to disabled. turn it on and set the gpu as first video output device. boot into windows and then download from intel web page the video drivers for the ipgpu of the cpu that installed on your mb. if you have an amd mb see if there a setting to turn on both at the same time and install the amd video drivers. (on some mb that use apu they may run the ipgpu as crossfire and not as a second monitor it up to the vendor.)

To switch between graphics card and igpu you'll have to use bios setup. In that , change the display priority to peg(graphics card) or onboard(igpu). And this way you can use only one monitor at a time.

Im trying to use two thoug :'(

Maybe you could use a splitter? Although, I think that would just show the same image on both screens...

I'm running both right now for extra monitors. Intel has a specific setting released since sb called igpu multi monitor which is exactly for running the igpu and dgpu at the same time. X79 doesn't even have igpu.

Since you have fx, the igpu is going to be an older amd hd 4000 series on the mobo. Some older mobos will support it but some do not. I haven't seen a multi monitor option in amd mobos but they usually have an option to force enable/disable the igpu. You can find out what mobo you have with cpuz. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
