Hi,

I got a few problems on my computer that I am confused to even describe it. So, yesterday smoke comes out from my computer, and after figuring out I found that the plug on my dvd rom is on fire. I removed the dvd rom and part of the cable and though problem solved.

But it wasn't, after an hour running my computer, the screen freeze and I have to force shut down. After that, I try to start the computer again and it can't detect my harddisk. I decides to bring it to technician.

The technician tested my harddisk, which is fine on other computer. Then test the PSU, which was not working. He then put my harddisk back to my computer and replace the PSU (new one have 10 more voltage.. it is 230v, old one was 220v) and the harddisk not functioning until he changes some settings on the BIOS. I get home happy, I though everything now good.

But today after like 6 hours browsing, playing games, and working with adobe flash and photoshop.. windows start doing weird behaviour.. at most time everything keep scrolling down (at the moment I write this, every some seconds the browser will zoom in the whole thing), when I go alt tab it keep flashing like I was pressing tab a lot.. I tried to unplug keyboard and the problem still there, unplug mouse it still scrolling either so I conclude it is something software...

So I run eset anti virus and malware bytes and found many threats on eset, and a few threats on malware bytes. Due to they still go on scanning, I decide to run a game (starbound) and notice it goes a bit slower than normal. Right when I'm going to quit the game, I smell burnt on my room. Afraid that it is another meltdown I force turn off my computer, cancelling the 95% scan eset have been doing :( ... I am confused of what caused this.. it seems the smell comes out from psu but instead the burning smell psu seems fine.. another thing that I found hot is the harddisk but I have no clue if harddisk supposedly hot or not-- it is just hot, not that I can't touch it. Is it possible that the power cable the cause? Cause it is a bit loose in the PSU, though can't accidentally unplug it. Or maybe the malware cause some kind of overheat? but cpu and gpu seems fine.

Now I'm trying to clean the malwares so I can safetly backup my datas to my external harddisk.
here is my current system spec:
intel pentium E5200
NVidia geforce gt630
WDC wd3200aaks
on board soundcard
230v PSU.

I need to know what happened here, and if it is two problems or one.. and what shall I do next..

With so many problems you HAVE to find what has burned it could be anything board/video card/power supply.

Take the system apart if you have to to find out what is damaged.

Maybe getting ahold of this tech is a good idea as well. Also the 220 vs 230 volts is an input thing and has nothing to do with what power the unit puts out. A 220 or 230 volt power supply tends to work at either voltage and most modern power supplies will take 90 - 240 pr 250 volts without issues.

Viruses and malware do not tend to burn computers and hard drives can feel quite hot to the touch(40-60 degrees Celsius). So a hot drive is not generally alarming.

I think the virus or malware issue is unrelated to the burning issue and you have to get that under control first.

Also the output wattage(especially what is on the 12 volt rail or rails) on a power supply is more important than the input voltage(assuming you are plugging into the right plugs that is. do not plug a 120 volt power supply into a 230 volt plug).
