R9 280x -- A optimistic research to a disastrous find...

I recently bought a PC, I know most of you will strangle me and follow with the words " Why didn't you build one yourself you caveman?" Well I don't have the technical prowess to do so (as simple it may seem to some, it seems tedious and risky). Any who- This desktop comes with the GPU "R9 280x". Did quite of a research on this specific fella, and he runs with flying colors and hot, unbeatable specs. Hey, even an eye widening gameplay of Battlefield 4 in ultra! Nevertheless; amidst my hopes and follies, came the plague that many users had-artifacts.

I checked, and boy where there many complaints. Heck, even searching "GPU artifacts" in Google shows a video of a 280x card showing artifacts in Battlefield 3...

I don't know if I'm being paranoid, because most cards have their fair share of artifacts and problems, but I don't know what to prepare for honestly...

I ask you this, should I follow through with the order? It seems like a great card based on other views, and its a good bang for my buck... I mean these cases of artifacts could be just a small proportion... Or they could be just limited to brand name cards (because I suppose they come ready over clocked)...

Specs:
CPU: Fx-6300 accompanied by some embarrassingly cheap mobo
RAM: Generic 8 gig sticks
PSU: Some unbranded Australian pellet poop aka 550w-700w unknown amps.
HDD: 1 Tb
GPU: Stock r9 280x (if there is such a thing)
Windows 8.1

Hopefully its not as bad as I think the card will be.
Key thing is: Computer hasn't been processed so I can stop the production (but I really don't want to nor do I have the time to buy another one).

Also Happy New Year :)

Hi:)

The AMD 280x is a new card and as such will have some problems.
Driver updates address most of the issues with new cards but most manufacturers have released a bios update for the cards which can sort the artifacts out.
I myself have 2 x AMD 270x running in crossfire and had screen flickering issues but they were sorted out with the latest driver update.
I run Battlefield 4 on ultra settings with 2 x MSAA and unlike most with Battlefield i have never had even one crash with the game:D

Hi thank you for the swift reply. I must ask, does this BIOS update require any handling of the GPU? Or is it just pure booting.

I mean like, would I have to get that USB stick and shove it in somewhere in the mobo or GPU haphazardly because I know not what I am doing...

First your card might not be one that needs a bios update.
If it does however it's simple and requires no handling of the card.

When you receive your card i suggest downloading the latest drivers from the AMD website and then test a game with the card.
If it runs fine which it probably will you will be able to just enjoy your gaming.
If you feel you need a bios update come back on these forums for detailed help on how to update the bios.
