Hello all,

I hope I can get some help bacause I can sure use it.

I recently bought new parts and assembled my a new system,
The problem is that the system somethimes freezes, the screen freezes up and mouse and keyboard unresponsive also.

This issue occurs randomly and at every given time in all kind of applications (Battlefield 4, internet explore, chrome..)
The weird thing is that it always freezes in Cyberlink Powerdirector 12, right after I click the start button to start render a video project.
It freezes without any error message and I have to physically power cycle the machine.
There are no BSOD's and no event log entries that point me to a cause.
When it freezes I see no disk activity when looking at the leds, I hear no fans blowing and all components (mouse, keyboard) receive power. It looks and sounds like the system is idle.

What have I done so far:

- I reinstalled Windows a couple of times
- I ran memtest for a long persiod to check RAM and no errors were found
- I ran Prime 95 with torture test to test cpu and memory usage
- I checked temperatures and all are ok.
- I made sure Im using latest drivers for teh motherboard
- I upgraded to latest BIOS
- I made sure im using latest drivers for my graphics card

My system has the following specs:

- Mobo: Asus Maximus VI Hero
- RAM: Duall Kit of 2 x 8 GB G.Skills Trident-X
- CPU: 4770K
- CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D14
- SSD: Samsung Pro 840
- HDD: WD Caviar Black
- PSU: Seasonic X-750
- GPU: GTX 680 (MSI Twin Frozr III)
- Case: Corsair 750D
- OS: Windows 8.1 (64 bits Home Premium)

Now what else can I check, I really dont know if its a hardware related issue or not.

Hope you guys can help

Thanks in advance

Thanks you markwp. I checked everthing and all cables are firmly attached.

Update to my original post:

First. I rolled back to old nvidia drivers. Powerdirector still freezes when I hit start to render but now after minutes and no right after I hit start.

Also, It seems when it freezes I do loose power to my extrenal USB devices.
The lights on my mouse keeps on but its a G700 that can be used wireless, but mines connected by wire most of the time.
The backlight of my keyboard actually is off when it freezes.

When you rolled back, did you do a complete uninstall of the drivers? Sometimes there are "leftovers" that will screw everything up. When I update graphics graphics drivers for either AMD or Nvidia, I uninstall both the drivers and the software panels, then use ccleaner to get rid of any leftover kruft in the registry, then install the current (or in your case, prior) drivers from either the AMD or Nvidia web site (never from a disc or from the gpu maker).

Yes I cleaned the drivers before installing the other one, and downloaded them from the archive section of the nvidia website.

The fact power is lost to USB when it freezes worries me, will a faulthy motherboard be the issue?
It is weird that it happens instantly when I render a video, will somethimes it takes hours before it freezes when gaming or brosing the internet.

The only other thing I can think of is to uninstall Powerdirector and then use the pc as normal. If the problem disappears, reinstall Powerdirector and see if you are still good or if the problem returns. If you are installing powerdirector from a download, you may have gotten a corrupt version and have to re-download.
