Okay so right now I have the Fx 4100 processor and a 7870.

I get the feeling its my processor that is the bottleneck because on 64 player servers I get sometimes as low as 35fps on high settings.

On empty servers on the same settings I get 50-70fps

Will purchasing the Fx 6300 solve most of my lag problems?

If not, what will?

64 players puts a major strain on the system. I feel it too at times with a i5 + 660Ti. If you were to upgrade the better path would be a fx-8320 instead cuz it sells for $10 more than a fx-6300.

However, a low of 35 isn't the worst. You gotta look at your average fps too. Sometimes a building blows up and the system is strained and I get major fps dips but otherwise things are fast.

It's $20 more, but still a decent deal.

heh, the 4100 being overpriced does not make the 8320 a better deal :)

I have the 6300. It's a real bottleneck. Especially on Siege of Shanghai map 64p

But the issue is I don't want to go as far as an 8320 because I only have a 500w Corsair PSU D:

I would think that your psu would be ok unless you started overclocking an 8 core monster. The 6300 overclocked is a fast cpu. I have one comfortably running at 4.5 GHz. I am not a gamer so I don't have a strong gpu.

Trying to overclock the fx-8320 is difficult on a 500W PSU. Cuz it consumes about 100W more power than a i5. So, can you reach 4.3GHz on a fx-8320 + 500W PSU? ...depends on GPU, mobo, and peripherals.

Under Battlefield 4 an FX-6300 will net you around the same performance as a Core i5-3570K. You'll likely get better minimum frame rate yet a lower avg frame rate. Battlefield 4 is very well threaded (once the Mantle patch drops next month Quad Intel CPUs will likely be matched and maybe even overtaken by AMD in BF4 benchmarks).

An FX-4300/4170 shouldn't get much more performance when Mantle is up and running however. DirectX does well with 3 Cores (just sucks at scaling beyond that for the most part).

What's your mobo and cpu?

Is your processor running at 100% speed (ran out of resources) when in 64p servers?

The FX 4100 is slow to begin with. You may be able to get by with just the 6300, but you can get the 8320 for only a little more.

Yeah basically is from what the Task Manager is saying...I'll buy the 8320 - thanks for the info :)
