Is my GPU bottlenecking my CPU?

I've noticed some low FPS in games like arma 2 and skyrim when my GPU should be able to handle those games easily.

specs:

GPU: R9 270X Gigabyte Edition
Motherboard: http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-2ae0-msi/
CPU: AMD A8 5500
and a 500 watt powersupply

If this is the problem, could I some how overclock my 5500? Would that increase my fps by a lot?

Ok, go ahead and load up one of the games, while the game is open(While you are in game not the menu) open up task manager and click on the performance tab. Also, if you have hardware monitor or MSI afterburner, open that up as well to monitor the GPU usage, if one of the parts is hitting 100% usage while in game, that is the bottleneck.

Could you tell us what kind of FPS you are talking about in these games? As well has your RAM. Overclocking may be able to bump your FPS a bit, but your looking at 2-8 FPS in most games. However you could be seeing normal FPS and just be thinking it's not normal. The 270x isn't exactly a powerhouse like the 770 or 280x, so I could see you getting only around 40-50 fps in most games. Also you won't really be able to overclock that far if you are using a non-black edition CPU. Hope this helps!

In ARMA 2 in Wasteland or Takistan Life Revolution (havent even tried DayZ out) I get 20-25 fps. In skyrim its about the same 25-28 sometimes 30-33 in non demanding areas. That is without any mods too. I just thought it would be better that that.


EDIT: I forgot, I have 8GB of RAM.

And that FPS is from playing the games on ultra presets? Or highest possible? If so, you do have some sort of bottleneck going on, you should be getting at least 40-50fps on most games.

In ARMA 2 the fps doesnt change no matter how high or low the graphics are. Same with Skyrim.


EDIT: Also what kind of solution can I do to this, that doesn't include me replacing my CPU, because my motherboard is so sketchy that I would have to replace it too.

Well I tried ARMA and it never hit 100% but what is weird is when I tried skyrim again, I was getting 40-60 fps, so I guess its not a bottleneck and its just ARMA 2's poor optimization. Thank you for your help, it was really helpful.
