Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP, but will hold on a few weeks if there’s a hardware release/price drop, etc.

Budget Range: £1000 ± £100 total

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Music production (only occasionally)

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: It’d be a new build

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference – whatever’s cheapest!

Location: Croydon, Surrey, UK

Parts Preferences: No preference – I care most for performance!

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe – should I?

Your Monitor Resolution: I have a spare Acer V234H which I’d use for the screen. Not sure what resolution it’s at :)

Additional Comments: I don’t have too much free time, so I need a fast booting machine that’ll just work when I squeeze some time in for gaming. I’d like it to be as future proof as possible, as I will have some money later down the line for upgrades. I’m mainly a strategy gamer, so stuff I’d like to be running at ridiculous resolutions and framerates would be things like Rome II, SimCity V, etc - and all upcoming graphics hungry strategy/FPS games.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: About time to get a gaming PC!

Hey guys

OK, so I hope that the info at the top makes sense and outlines what I’m trying to do here and why. If not, feel free to question of course!

So, I modified a £1000 Gaming PC build that another forum member put down (can’t find his thread now) the only difference being that I took out the monitor on his set of components, bringing the price down from £1000 and giving me some more money to play with)

Any thoughts or advice on how to squeeze the most performance outta £1000? I have £1000 set aside from this and would like to make the most of it.

Been a while since I’ve been on the PC gaming scene and so any advice is appreciated :)

Cheers!

from the sounds of things you seem to know what youre doing. Considering youve got another £200 to play with, maybe get a R9 290 or 290X if youre looking for another option

I agree with sosofm on this one, get a GTX 780. Your build is very similar to the PC I will be building as well! I have 2TB storage in stead of 1, so that could save you ~25 pounds. I also added your chosen case in it because mine isn't available there. Here it is: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2tNgr

Edit: please note that I've added a PSU with 850 Watt, since I need some breathing room for SLI.

Hey guys

Thanks for all your help and advice so far. I think I'll take K33p0ut & sosofm's advice and go for a GTX 780 instead then. One question - what's the difference between the Geforce GTX 780 and the Geforce GTX 780ti ? I can't seem to find a direct comparison but it looks like the ti is newer and more expensive?

Hi Mahali,

The 780ti is better for gaming in general and has more cuda cores than the gtx 780. Here is are a few benchmarks

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-780-ti-review-benchmarks,3663-5.html

Generally, the 780 ti performs better
