Just got an R9 290 - Now I need to power it!

Solution
If you don't want to go over 70, I would stick with the one you linked, it's modular and it is corsair so it's pretty reliable. Hope this helps!

It's a tier 3 PSU. I'd use that without hesitation in a low budget build. With the NZXT or Corsair you pay more but get better quality.

Actually yes, it's a pretty nice Power supply. Be sure to select a "Best Solution" to help those who have similar questions/problems.

We're supposed to look at 1000W PSUs for 290 CF :(
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

That's around £140 or £150

BTW, diddle283, be careful if you want to buy PC parts from amazon. Amazon itself is very reliable and has all my respect, but the Fractal Design PSU you linked earlier is not actually sold by Amazon. It's sold by "IvoryEgg Limited".

I've just been reading up and apparently my 550w psu is supposed to be ok for a single 290. What will happen if I were to try it and it wasn't up to the task? will stuff blow up or will it just shut down?
