i5 4670 @3.4
Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB
Asus Z87-a

Hi folks. I was messing around the other day and decided to take a look at Tomb Raider. The card is advertised and reviewed at running the game at 60+ FPS and when I ran the in game benchmark it tested at 45. Low of 30 and high of 64.

I had a friend who built his rig at the same time with same parts (except mobo) try it out and he's getting 51 FPS. So overall I'm wondering why we're not seeing 60+ on the benchmark. Maybe advertising and reviews are for average gameplay and not the benchmark?

But I'm also wondering why I'm consistently getting 5-7 FPS slower than his build on our various tests. Any suggestions on where to start looking or if its even a concern? I just want to make sure nothings wrong with my setup. Thanks in advance!

Add: Benchmark was ran at Ultimate settings, as the review here on Tom's. Also, neither of our builds are CPU or GPU OC'ed. (Well, GPU is factory OC'ed but we haven't raised it further.)

Most likely, it is the processor. The i5 4670 performs slower than the 4770K in some games:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-46...
I don't know which one performs better in Tomb Raider or if it even matters (I would need to find those specific benchmarks), but perhaps that is the reason; 5-7 FPS does seem within the margin difference between these two processors.
See update.

Some things to maybe check:
* Are you running at the same settings here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-760-rev...
FXAA, 16x Anisotropic Filtering, TressFX, and 1920x1080 resolution
* Are you using a proper 8pin PCI connector on the GPU and not a 6to8 pin converter? (this might not matter in the case of the 760)

That looks about right to me, tomb raider is quite demanding at ultimate settings especially with tresfx enabled
Take a look at this,http://, the gtx 670 should be similar to your 760 and only averages about 40fps at 1680*1050

It shouldn't be the processor because their is no difference between the top range i7's

Whats your monitor resolution?

Ignore the fact that this is not how you are supposed to test CPUs, here's the only benchmark I could find: http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/intel_haswell_core...

Seems the processor might not matter, but again, because they tested it wrong (you are supposed to turn down graphics details so you are testing the CPU and not the video card) I can't say for sure.

Yes, same settings as review. Resolution at 1920x1080. While looking around the Internet I'm scrounging up some other results posted by folks in the benchmark and mine are lining up with those; low to high 40s. So I suppose I'm in good shape. Still wondering how my buddy's getting a 15% better performance with the same components and OS though. Can a motherboard do that?

Edit: Also meant to add that I don't think the CPU is hurting me any. Task manager shows usage at around only 60% during the in game benchmark.
