Hi Guys.

i have built my first machine over the Christmas holiday and it all went great.....or so i thought.

My Specs:

i7 4770k
Asus z87k
8gb DDR3 Ram
120 gb SSd
1Tb HDD
AMD Radeon Gigabyte r9 270X.

My issue is that i put the machine together and plugged my monitor in.. .no issues booted to windows, i plugged it into the Vga port integrated to the motherboard because i didnt have a DVI cable and wont be bale to get my hands on one until mid next week (so i wasnt going through my graphics card). so windows loaded fine, i have recently started playing games, Skyrim, and getting 10 - 20 fps on low setting :S. I check my device manager and in display adapters it only shows intel(r) HD graphics 4600 and not my 270x. I have tried to install AMD drivers however get an "installation package failure"

The fans spin on the graphics crad so it is getting power however i do know that just because the fans are spinning, it doesn't necessarily mean everything is working.

do i possibly need to disable the intel drivers before install AMDs? i am a bit apprehensive about doing this so i thought i would ask for help here first :)
What happens when i disable the driver? i assume black screen?
how would i then install the AMd drivers to discover my 270x?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am a little lost at the moment.
Thanks

I have never disabled on board graphics and never had an issue. reseat your card in the slot and make sure the power cables to the card are seated very well and carry the proper amps to the card. the fans will spin just form the power the card gets off the mobo, my best guess here is that you don't have enough power to the card.

Thanks for the reply, when you say video cable, the cable going from the monitor to the machine? If so then no, it is plugged directly into the VGA port integrated into the motherboard

Hi,

Ive tried that, and i dont think my power supply is an issue. Corsair 750w.

There is no external lead going in to the graphics card. VGA or Dvi, from monitor. so i think that may be the issue. but to be honest im not sure, pretty new to this. Will have to wait until i can get my hands on a DVi to test.
