I was thinking the same thing a few weeks ago.
it will come down to what sort of gamplay you are after eg. bf4 cod mmorpg or moba as an example.

I ended going with the Kraken 7.1 because i am more of a MOBA gamer.
The 7.1 virtual sound still works really well with BF4 but not as crisp as the a40.

I find the kraken to be the most confortable headset on the market and pretty light. this was a big selling point for me.
Astros can be more heavy and can pinch a bit afer long periods of gameplay.
It will come down to ur gaming preference. Both are good headsets. Choose for the type of gamplay ur after.

Astro A40s anyday. I thin you should buy this because it has crystal clear sound, the bass is awesome, mic quality is superb. Some downsides to it are that it's wired this might not be a problem for some people but I keep getting wires stuck under my chair which is annoying), you also need a mixamp for 7.1 surround sound which brings up the cost heavily, but it still has plenty of features. The Razer kraken I've never used but I don't think it can be better than A40.

Hey there BenEzz!
I have both the Astro A40 and the Kraken Pro.
The Kraken Pro or 7.1 will be a more of a bass heavy headset. So if you're planning to play CoD or Battlefield it'll be harder for you to pinpoint the exact footsteps with a bass heavy headset. Also, the 7.1 version is a USB only headset.

Now about the Astro A40.
I just bought myself the bundle with the mixamp anddddddddddd I have to say this headset blows the Kraken out of the water. The quality of the sound is a lot clearer with a punchy bass and isn't bloated like the Krakens. However in terms of comfort I have to say the A40's does it for me. There is a whole lot LESS clamp with the Astros vs having to readjust the Krakens every other hour.

However it is solely up to you to which headset suits your needs. If you need a universal headset for Pc, Xbox, Ps, etc get the Astros. If you only play Pc get the Krakens. Also the price may factor into your decision, Kraken 7.1 is a LOT cheaper than the A40 and unless you can get a Astro with a Mixamp for 200 or less I wouldn't say they are worth it.

The Astros A40 are the top of the line.
In saying that I have both head sets and tend to use the Kraken 7.1 pro much more then the Astros A40.
Kraken 7.1 Pro is a much more comfortable headset for long session gaming and great sound.
The Astro A40 even though have slightly better sound, I find to be just a bit too heavy and can cause pinching in long gaming sessions
