Cooling a stock FX-8320

I'm not planning on overclocking it or anything as it already does what I want it to.

For now I have an Arctic Freezer Pro Rev 2.0 on it, and I've had to turn off the turbo because otherwise it gets WAY too hot. The stock cooler wasn't much better for me either, and it was a lot louder than the Arctic.

What coolers can I get for ~£50 that won't require me to get low profile RAM or move my graphics card.

Also how can I make sure the airflow in my case is ok?
I currently have a Fractal Design Define R3, with 2 fans in the front and 1 at the back. All of the fans are the stock fractal ones.

Other parts are:
Asus M5A97 R2.0
Gigabyte R9 270X 2GB
4GB DDR3 stick + 2GB DDR3 stick

Two great suggestions, Corsair's liquid cooling is really great and there is always one on sale or refurbished, and the Hyper 212 Evo is one of the best air coolers you can get. You can get a Corsair H100 refurbished for $65, which would be the best option. You could fit that on the top of your case.

Well when the turbo is on, it gets hot enough for it to shut off the whole computer. When it isn't turned on it slowly rises up and above 70C.

Right now I have the power saving mode from my motherboard turned on, it's clocked it down to 1.3GHz and it stays around 40C while I'm using it. Not very nice to have it like this though.

Here's a photo of my case: http://i.imgur.com/7qRwIpR.jpg
Most of the wires are around the back and out of the way, there is a big mess near the bottom though. I've never been good at making wires look tidy/keeping them out of the way.

I've been reading a little bit, and I think the front fans need swapping around to be intakes?

I would recommend a Thermalright True Spirit 120M. It was designed for micro ATX and mini tower cases in mind and the copper heat pipes are slanted towards the rear of the case so there is no need for low-profile ram. I use it on my FX-8320 and I idle at 22C and on full load I hit 49C. I am beyond impressed with this cooler, and it keeps my CPU cooler than it was with my CM EVO 212. You can buy it for $42.90 on Amazon.com, sorry I do not know how much this is in your currency.

Okay, one thing you can do is move your video card down a slot. I used to have the same motherboard and a similar configuration, and both my CPU and GPU were overheating because they were so close. You should also rotate the cooler to blow air up (heat moves up naturally) and get more case fans, as I only see one. If you want a new cooler, you can get a Corsair H60 for 52.73 from newegg. I just used PCPartpicker to find the price in the UK because I don't live there, so you may want to look around for yourself, but an H60 is a great cooler, and a low price liquid cooler.

rilacor, I'll see if I can find one in the UK and maybe give it a try.

eqok93, thanks for that. I did what you recommended and it's now idling around 35C, I also swapped the 2 fans that are in the front panel so that they are pushing air into the case. I tried a quick game of battlefield 4 and didn't see it touch 60C but it wasn't running for very long as I didn't have much time last night. I'll try it again tonight for a bit longer and see what temps it gets up to.

Instead of the H60 would it be better getting a refurb H100? They seem to be almost the same price. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/corsair-hydro-series-h100-refurbished-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler-240mm-radiator-plus-2-fa

Or if this fits, would this be better? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/noctua-nh-u14s-ultra-quiet-slim-cpu-cooler-with-140mm-nf-a15-fan

I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo with the same CPU, and the highest temps I've seen is 51C (After a long Bf4 session and that's because it's the heart of summer now, around 30C outside).

I realise the cooler is too big(you might need low profile ram), and I might have gotten a good chip , but seems to me as if you need to reseat your cooler and apply fresh thermal paste.

Been playing with it some more now, definitely need a better cooler on this. After a while it will reach 70C socket temp and goes over 60C on the core temps.

Will the Hyper 212 Evo overlap any of my RAM slots? From photos I've seen on other motherboards it seems to get very close to the first RAM slot. If it only affects that first slot then I'll be happy with that.

I suppose while I'm at this I should get some good thermal paste along with it, what should I get?

The Hyper 212 EVO will only barely touch the Memory in the 1st RAM slot. All you need to do is move the fan up a little bit and the problem is solved. :)

Thanks for the help everyone!
I've ordered a Hyper 212 Evo.

Scan.co.uk currently has it on preorder, but I don't mind waiting a week. Its £10 cheaper than Amazon here.

Just as an update. I received my 212 EVO on friday. Took me a while to figure out that X bracket thing (Couldn't figure out that the screws on the ends actually moved)

But now it's been installed a few days and it's brilliant!
The highest it gets with the turbo on now is 49C and sits at around 32C when I'm browsing etc.

So thank you guys a lot for the help!
