Help with disk partitioning

Hello, I wanted to create an additional partition to install Linux on and I encountered a problem.

I shrinked one partition (Local Disk (D:)) to create 30 GBs of unallocated space, but when I try to create a new partition from it, it says that I already have the maximum number of partitions. I've read something about the limit to 3 primary partitions and one extended but I don't really understand it. Here are my partitions as shown in Disk Management:

Local Disk (D:) Healthy (Primary Partition)
System (C:) Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)
System Reserved Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)
Win 7 32-bit (G:) Healthy (Logical Drive)

This is how I use them:
- (D:) is where I put all my programs, installations etc etc.
- (C:) is where the Windows 7 64-bit OS is installed and it holds programs which can't be installed on (D:) and my documents.
- (G:) is where the Windows 7 32-bit OS is installed (because I only have the 32-bit Auto Cad and Solid Works and I had to install a 32-bit version of Windows)
- System Reserved is, I suppose, un-usable.

So, what should I do to create a new partition in order to install Linux?

EDIT: Smileys are supposed to be : ). I should have previewed the post first :p

you dont really need win7 32 bit as your sound card will work with 64 bit windows.your CAD program should also work on 64 bit. use that partition for your linux install. sorry misread a little.your autocad and solid works will work on 64bit windows.use that partition .

Watch out when playing with partitions! Definetly don't create more than the max. I once wrecked my notebook drive doing so. Maybe get a new drive, or use one of the old partitions to install your linux on.

delete win7 32bit
create an extended partition there. (Your live linux can do it if need using gparted)
Create a logical partition inside the extended for the win7 32bit
Reinstall windows there.
Install linux inside the extended partition as well in whatever space left over, you need 2 logical partitions, the main one and a small 1 or 2 gb swap disk.

Actually, I tried installing the 32-bit programs on the 64-bit Win 7 and it actually said that I need a 32-bit OS to run them. The installation literally would not let me install them. When I triend installing them on a 32-bit system, it worked.

I ended up shrinking the Win 7 32-bit partition and creating a small 10 GB one for Linux (since I only want to learn how to use Linux and not use it for everyday purposes). Thank you all anyway :D
