I've perused the forums and still can't find my solution. I have a Linksys EA6500 for my wireless router and have a computer connected via Ethernet cable to it. I have 5 other devices connected to it via wireless. I had no problems all day yesterday. This morning, my computer cant connect. I connect my cable directly to the modem and still cant get on the internet--my computer recognized the router but can't connect, same goes for the modem (unknown soandso is the name given the modem so it actually 'sees' something). I followed the recommendation here http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1952829/connect-wired-network.html#. which creates a txt file on my c drive. I can't really cut and paste since I'm submitting this question on a different computer, but I don't see anything blaringly obvious but then again I don't know really what to look for. I am using Windows 7, I have a newly built rig that's been working great internet-wise until today. Also, I went under device manager and my network adapter is 'working properly' and I went to the Linksys website to check my router and it says my computer is 'connected to the internet.' What am I missing?

On you computer Right Click on Network, then go to properties, then change adapter settings. Make sure Local Area connection is enabled. If it is then Right click on Local Area Connection, properties, IPV4, then click on properties. Make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically and "Obtain dns server automatically" is selected. Then on the WINS tab, there should be no WINS address also check that Netbios default settings is selected.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I was barely home yesterday and just got off of work today. I looked at everything you suggested and everything was enabled and the "obtain dns server/ip address automatically" were already selected. I have windows 7 and getting to this WINS tab is a problem--I can't find one. When I type 'WINS' in my search field for windows, I come up with a tab not labeled the WINS tab under internet connections. Strange thing though, this tab says I'm already connected to the internet but of course I can't get on any websites or play any online games. I've run my antivirus check and nothing comes up. On a side note althought IPv4 is enabled, IPv6 is disabled and I don't see how to enable it. Is this the problem? I just don't know how all of this changes overnight, I had no problems the night before. Any other suggestions? What am I missing?

Before you do anything else try to replace the Ethernet cable that is connected to your computer. If that does not help, Go back to where it says obtain address automatically, obtain dns automatically. Then click on advanced. You will see 3 tabs on the top, Ip settings, dns and wins and check the setting as stated above. It would be helpful if you can post the results of the txt file you created before. If not, go to the search and type CMD. type ipconfig/all and post the results.

I'll just copy the txt file from the ipconfig /all command. I read elsewhere to try a reset of my ip address with ipconfig /reset then /renew but this didn't work. I'll paste txt files in a sec
