I was trying to help my cousin install a graphics card today but now it wont turn on. The power lights wont show the colour blue and none of the fans are spinning inside the system. At some rare occasions, I can turn on system, but the power lights still wont show up and only one fan will only spin really really slowly. I can also hear the hard drive or DVD drive (I'm not sure) spinning inside my cousin's computer. I suspect that the PSU is causing my cousin's computer to not turn on, but I'm quite sure yet.

Before this all happened, my cousins computer was fine.
His computer is an Acer Aspire e80.

Edit: I don't know much about his computer specs, but here is a list of everything that I know.

Computer Specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz (dual core)
CPU Socket: Socket AM2
RAM: 4GB DDR2 SDRAM
Memory Speed: 667 MHz
250 GB HDD

What are the specifications? Did you triple check all the connections?

Did you work in an area with lots of static? You may have shocked the motherboard but thats a worse case scenario don't worry yet haha. I have had this issue before. Make sure your 8 pin is plugged in good. On older computers it was only 4 pin if thats the case than make sure your 4 pin is plugged in good.

I was installing his graphics card on the floor (which is wooden). And what do you mean by an 4 or 8 pin? Sorry, I forgot my computer stuff...

Hes talking about a common connector between PSUs and components, anything that might look like this?

By 8 or 4 pin I mean a power connector that connects from psu to motherboard. It should look something like what Adam Ebel posted. I am not 100% certain that this is causing the issue but this can definitely be a possible cause. Another suggestion is take the graphics card back out and try booting it up see what happens. Maybe the gpu is causing the issue.

The 4 pin is connected properly. I also tried taking out the graphics card out and the computer still would not boot up. I'm upgrading his graphics ATI Radeon 3450HD to a Nvidia GT 610. Even with or without either graphics cards installed on the computer, the computer is still not booting up.

Have you checked the PSU wattage? It's possible that the new card was too much for the power supply to handle.

Hey guys, thanks for the help, but I finally fixed the problem. The problem was the computer`s PSU. I just swapped the PSU with another PSU and the computer is running fine! Thank you all that tried to help! Cheers!
