Hi All,

This is what i'd like to achieve. Have one system that houses all my media files, said files are accessible anywhere in the home (using whatever device there may be, for example I'd like to watch videos/pictures, or hear music, with any device (TV, phone, tablet, Sonus speaker)) that back ups data and provide disk failure protection.

From what i have been reading RAID is not a backup. I thought it was, but a simple example of file deletion puts it in perspective.

I was looking at Synology DS412+, does that provide this kind of solution? Should i custom build instead? are there benefits?

Currently, i have a 6 year old HTPC (built myself) that plugs into my AV receiver (no other device can read it), a T400 laptop and two spare external HDDs that i spread/duplicate my files manually.

Please help,

PTMD

p.s. could I convert/salvage my HTPC in anyway?
