I build a PC and have been using it for a couple of years. I don't have a GPU, but have been able to play BF4 and 3 thanks to my APU. After a couple of matches (I normally play much longer than that) I noticed a burning smell. The smell didn't seem to fill the room, just around my desk area. The computer still worked, but i instantly turned off the game. The smell didn't seem to continue after that. I put my hand next to each of the vents in my case, and the air wasn't as hot as it normally is after a long game. I continued to shut off the computer and took off the side panel. I didn't notice any damage or busted caps. I put my nose closer to each of the at components, but didn't notice the smell anymore. There was a smell coming from the CPU area, but it didn't seem to be the same burning smell. I got a bit worried from reading other articles, but none of them seem to be my case. Any help? Thanks in advanced.

Is your computer really dusty? I would start with a can of compressed air and clean the computer case out really good. Every once and a while I will unplug my PC and take it outside for a good dusting... Make sure to use it as the bottle instructs... Don't hold it upside down and make everything wet.

You might try to monitor what temperatures your GPU and CPU are getting to when you are gaming. Those are the primary components that undergo more stress and use more electricity when gaming. Also look for wiring touching the CPU/GPU that shouldn't be there. PSU is another culprit, but less likely.
