monitor: hp 2311x

my dad's friend basically gave me this monitor in a get it now,pay later sort of deal.

nice guy eh?

well basically it came without a power cord or input cord[vga dvi hdmi]. I found a temporary replacement cord which gives the monitor power. The light on the bottom right lights up.

but whats peculiar is the screen shows no response. It remains as dark black as it was before it had power. i try clicking the buttons looks for a response, but nothing shows up.

no notificstion that theres no input.

no light

nothing, it just remains a brick except the led light which turnd to yellow after a minute.

so is this normal? Will there be no light on the screen till its connected to the pc or should it act as a tv without anything on? Just a dull blue screen or something

Solution
Usually it says "no signal" unless you give it input from a computer or something.

Test it with a computer, make it display a pure white, black, red, blue, green screen. Look for dead or stuck pixels (pixels that are always off, always white, or stuck in one color) and also light bleeding around the edge of the screen (abnormally bright area when displaying all black)

If thats true then thanks, ill go ahead and stick with this monitor. It seemed to have no signs of externsl damage, but does show signs of life other then the led light.

i appreciate the help. Sorry for the bad posts, typing on the 2ds is a pain
