Wow. Ok, Well maybe I shouldnt have said "BEST", Haha. Didnt think itd be that expensive. I was looking at the Q6600 and Q6700 for around $50 on ebay. (Is the Q6600 not essentially the same as what you just posted?)

The Q6600 and Q6700 are based on first gen Conroe cores. The E8400 although only a dual is a newer Wolfdale chip. All of them are hopelessly obsolete for gaming. Save your money and upgrade the motherboard/CPU and RAM. Short of a Core2Quad 9550 or 9650 you are not even going to notice upgrading from an E8400. The Q6600 will be quite a bit slower in single threaded apps due to slower clockspeed and older design/lower IPC. The Q9550 and Q9650 are still very high priced for what you get. As in they will cost you as much as new CPU that's twice as fast than they are.

Overclock the E8400 to 4Ghz and use it as long as you can then do a complete upgrade. You are just wasting money trying to make obsolete tech not so obsolete.

The E8400 was a great CPU in its day. I ran one at 450FSB ( 4.050Ghz ) for several years.
