I was trying to install windows 8.1 on a computer I have just built but during the installation right after you choose the language I chose custom install and selected the only drive available and hit next. It never got farther than that and just froze I couldn't do anything so I shutdown the computer which was probably a terrible idea. Now if I try and install it will go to the windows splash screen, sit for awhile and go blank. I also noticed than since the first attempt at installation I'm no longer hearing the post beep but I know the speaker is still working because I can get to the uefi bios and it will beep.

The mobo is a Asrock Z87 killer. I have tried to install different versions of windows and they all do the same thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Solution
Ok so I tried working ssd that was already loaded with windows 8 and it booted up just fine so it appears that when I shut the computer off when windows froze during installation it messed up the hard drive. I ran ultimate boot cd and the Western Digital diagnostic tool and got errors like SMART error and some other errors that from what I can tell means that the hard drive is dead. I even tried to let the program write 0's over everything to try and start fresh but sadly it came up with more errors.

The hard drive was a WD 1TB black http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236625

Gonna go pick up a new hard drive from best tomorrow and see if everything will go OK.

**UPDATE**
I installed to the new hard drive and now...
make sure your mb has the newest bios. check that your ram set to xmp profile in the bios and the sata ports set to achi mode not ide or raid. make sure the boot drive on sata port 0. (some mb have two sets of sata chipsets) the other set may be only for data drives. if you have to plug the new drive into another pc use
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766465%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
to wipe the drive of all data and partions to start fresh if those tools wont work try 3 party tools to do a wipe.

I updated the bios and made sure the harddrive was on sata port 0, sadly no change, also I'm still not hearing the post beep.

Any other ideas?
