Hi. A friend of mine is thinking of buying a gaming computer but wants to buy it at bestbuy. Of all the ones he's showed me, I told him this one is the best for the money:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/gamer-ultra-desktop-8gb-memory-2tb-hard-drive/6979369.p?id=1218818472343&skuId=6979369&st=pcmcat143400050013_categoryid$abcat0501000&cp=1&lp=1#tab=specifications

though there was also this one (I told him the first one was better because of the video card and storage difference for the money)
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/gamer-ultra-desktop-8gb-memory-500b-hard-drive/9177129.p?id=1218994544145&skuId=9177129&st=CyberPowerPC%20-%20Gamer%20Ultra%20Desktop%20-%208GB%20Memory%20-%20500B%20Hard%20Drive&cp=1&lp=1

I advised him of buying a hyper 212 evo so he could get the FX 4300 a bit higher (since its a great overclocking cpu) but i'm not sure what mobo it has. I looked it up in amazon and it only says "AMD 760G chipset". Is the 760G chipset good? Can anybody help me find out what mobo it actually has and if it is good/overclockable? Should he get another heatsink and not the hyper 212 evo? Thanks for taking the bother! I appreciate it.

what are his thoughts about building a computer from parts?

you're likely to get the best performance per dollar that way and its very easy!

typically you get junk hardware when you buy oem machines (which is exactly why they dont specify the parts!!!!!!)

how can you calculate what it doesnt tell you?

what speed ram? is it 1333 which is really slow or 1600? (2133 is on sale right now online for the same price as 1600 btw)

what mobo? if its a shit chipset overclocking is a complete no-go. (you can get a 970 chipset rather cheap which while not awesome is still capable of overclocking a bit)

what hard drive brand? some drives are rather unreliable and drives over 1tb in general have higher failure rates. if its a crap brand to boot this could be trouble.

while i agree $610 (give or take) is a hard price to deal with i still think building it yourself (even if you end up spending $50 more or so) is going to get you a much better system (at least you know its capable of o/c and you know there are good components which means the best performance.

completely your choice though.

--------------------

same price as the best buy pc.

whats better?

well for starters we know its a 970 chipset. while not the best for o/c it can handle a bit.

faster ram

7850 is faster than 650 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/549?vs=681

of course ... the build could always be trimmed back by a few bucks (say $20-30) and still be in better shape than a prebuilt.
