I'm having a lot of trouble getting this little connector out of its female socket. Any mechanism to remove this that I am missing. If possible please suggest a method that doesn't involve cutting plastic because I really don't want to mess something up.

Is there some tool for this job? I've been trying to push outwards at the walls but they wouldn't budge.

you could try with a little flat screwdriver but check if the connector where not soldered to after they put the plug in .
