Do I need a wireless network adapter in order to connect to Wi-Fi?

I am going to be building my own computer soon, and I was on PC Part Picker and noticed that I didn't put in a wireless network adapter. Is this needed to connect to Wi-Fi? I will probably also be connecting my computer to Ethernet soon also, but until then I will be using Wi-Fi. The OS that I will be running on is Windows 8.1.

You will need an adapter unless you have a motherboard with built in WiFi like the ASUS MAXIMUS VI IMPACT

Depending on your budget it might be more less expensive to just buy a good wirelees adapter like the TP-LINK TL-WN822N Wireless N300 High Gain USB Adapter, 300Mbps

I used one of these with good results for a couple of years. Now I use the ASUS USB-N66 Dual-band Wireless-N900 Adapter
because I have a dual ban router.
