hi. my toshiba satellite c850 randomly(i think) shuts down and when it rebooted, i stumbled upon this automatic repair thing. and the only way to get my laptop to work again is to use system restore. which i did for a few times. it sure made my laptop usable again but later it shuts down again. then i would do the same thing. :(

First try System File Checker
Winkey plus 'X'
Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Type sfc /scannow then Enter
If that fails to find anything, time to look at your Hardware, start with RAM. If you have more than one stick, try running on one at a time and in different slots.
Also check your HDD for errors.

thankyou for replying dodge. hm, i did the system file checker youve said, i got this in the cbs.log after the check:

" Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch "

is this a prob? i dont know, i dont know what to do im sorry. im sort of a "beginner" bout this.

Appears to be something to do with a Printer Driver Update, which would gel with System Restore reverting your machine to a point prior to the update, then failing when the Update is restored. Do you have a Canon Printer?
Try uninstalling your Printer anyway and see if your system is stable with it uninstalled and disconnected.
