Hi guys,

I'm looking for an Ivy Bridge mobo that supports upgrading to 3rd gen i5 / i7, faster RAM, and preferably without Flashing BIOS before installing 3rd gen proc.

Wont be needing 2 slot PCIe16 or overclocking. Not particularly needing Sata3 or Usb3 but will be nice plus. Currently looking at ASrock H61M/U3S3, H61M-S, Asus P8H61, MSI H61M-P31/W8..

CPU: i3 3220 3.3Ghz
RAM: 4GB Kingston DDR3 1333
GPU: NVIDIA 9500GT (reusing old card)
Mobo: ?? ATX / microATX

Thanks.

Yes. As per your requirements, H61 will be good enough.
Go for ASUS P8H61:

Or, you can also think of building the budget gaming system with AMD, for better VFM.

You can get FX 6300, at almost the same price as i3 3220.

Thanks for your recommendations. I've read that some older boards like ASrock H61M/U3S3 and maybe the Asus P8H61 require flashing the BIOS before it can support 3rd gen core, do you know how I can find a list of budget boards that already support 3rd gen?

I think, in most of the cases you will have to upgrade the BIOS version of an H61 Mobo to use an Ivy bridge CPU & that would require a Sandy bridge CPU to do so. I don't know about any such list of Ivy-Bridge ready mobo.

So, I think you should go for H77 Mobo, to avoid any such problems.
