Hello,

I am considering purchasing a laptop for someone who mainly only does light web browsing.

One laptop has a B820 1.7 GHz processor and the other has a E1-1200 1.4 GHz processor.

I looked both of them up on the CPU Benchmark website and they had the following numbers:

B820: 1471

E1-1200: 707

So, the B8S0 is rated with a much higher number. But, assuming that both of the laptops are nearly the same in all other specs, how noticeable would the different processors be from each other?

Thank you.

That is almost exactly a double performance increase, assuming that the benchmark you ran was applicable to every day applications that would should be able to notice that rather easily, but the biggest thing in a laptop that would make the laptop feel fast to someone who uses it is a solid state drive, Samsung and Intel both make exceptional SSD's, but most should be suitable. Also, that being said, a Celeron should be more than adequate for someone who just browses the web

what is exactly your budget

look up a6 5200

also a8 laptop at best buy is pretty good

Thank you for your responses.

As for my budget, it's around 200-300, mainly looking to purchased a refurbished laptop from eBay/Amazon, and just need a basic model for someone who does very minimalistic things on the computer.

As for the recommendations, I will take them into consideration.

The benchmark I looked up wasn't anything I ran, I just looked up the processors on http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ and found those numbers.

I realize one is double of the other, which is a big jump, but using the E1-1200, would someone who does minimalistic computer activities such as web browsing or watching some movies, notice any lag?

Thank you.

The computer will be slow, but not terrible. Maybe I'm too used to my i7's and all, but a Celeron isn't a super fast CPU. It is not terrible though and as long as you don't load it up with programs and use all the RAM you could even get away with having a hard drive and still have a decent experience

When you saying using the celeron won't be terrible, you're referring to the faster of the two, the B820?

But what about using the E1-1200? Do you think that processor would be adequate enough, or would it be significantly slower than the B820?

Also, if you're wondering why I don't just go with the B820 over the E1-1200 - I am just considering the E1-1200 processor because it is in of the lone 17 inch laptops I was looking at, where as the B820 is in a 15 inch laptop.

Thank you again for the assistance.

the b820 wouldnt be any better
it would be better for browsing but bad for movie watching due to low end graphics

however since you dont mind refurbished i can give you best of both worlds and suggest a a8
its slightly lower by 5 percent compared to the a8 i mentioned before

the graphics side is way more powerful then the a6 and b820

it will also clock to 2.8ghz if it needs to for extra speed

The E1-1200 is roughly on the same level performance wise as an Intel Atom CPU, would I trust s CPU like that on a 17 inch laptop? No. The screen would either have to be low resolution to reduce things like lag.... Or, it will be a high resolution and lag a lot. One of my older Atom laptops stutters trying to stream 1080p YouTube. I have not had any personal experience with that CPU but I would advise against getting a 17 inch laptop that has that CPU for the reasons I listed above.

If you can deal with those limitations then by all means, I encourage you to get the laptop you want to buy, but I think that CPU would be better suited to smaller, 720p screen. Then the CPU won't strain as hard and you won't be trying to get it to display 1080p...

I would also like to say, +1 to the APU route. A cheap refurbished APU system will blow both of the current things you're looking at out of the water

The Celeron B820 is based off of the Ivy Bridge generation CPU architecture if I am not mistaken. In essence it is a stripped down version of a "high end" laptop CPU.

The AMD E1 series is based off of AMD's older Bobcat CPU architecture for low power consumption inexpensive APUs meant for netbooks. They are under powered. People even consider the more recent E2 series APUs to be under powered and that is just for everyday tasks not anything CPU intensive. "Sluggish" is likely the best description of user experience.
