When I boot with my GPU in it doesn't display anything.

Hi i have an asus GTX 760 gpu and when i boot my computer with it in, no image is displayed. However when i boot it with-out my GPU in it works fine. Could this be to with my PSU which is a G7 extreme power 780w, as it doesn't have an atx 12v connector?

I have plugged the power straight into my gpu by using an 8 pin connection from the psu by using a cable i got with my card which has to 6 pins coming off from it.

How do i do this, because when i launch my computer up it goes straight to the starting windows screen?

Just want to update you all to let you know that I have got my pc up and running with the GPU in and want to say thank for your help.

P.s
it was the bios that caused the issue as i hadn't updated the pci-e on it:)
