Hello Community,

I would like to buy more RAM (1 x 4 GB ). I already have 1 x 4 GB and according to HP specs website I can use up to 8 GB.

My model is HP Pavilion dv7-4162ss.

How do I know the correct frequency to purchase and sure not to mess things up? (It's the first time I buy extra RAM).

And if I can get it in a budget a processor update would be nice too. Can I switch from i5 to another?

It's all for gaming experience improvements, I've had this PC for about 3 or 4 years now and used it plenty, looked after.

P.S: I have overheat problems too. Vents aren't blocked and are clean yet it's noisy even if not on high performance.

Read what your system's manual says what memory you can add to your machine. (and CPUs too)
Speccy (http://www.piriform.com/speccy) may be able to tell you what you already have.
You could also look at the memory modules themselves and there will be some form of identification on them as well.

Thank you for this, I downloaded CPU-Z before this, but this is more complete :)

Every laptop I have ever seen has an cover panel specifically designed for access to the memory modules without having to open up the chassis. I have found it easier to insert new memory into a laptop than a desktop.

I had a check around and found crucial website (recommended by HP themselves). They took a scan of what I have and showed me a list of what I can purchase.
Looks like I found what I wanted :)
Thanks for your help!

That's not a problem :)
