DELL XPS M1530; black screen

Hi, I´ve got a Dell XPS M1530 notebook.

Some time ago, a small drop of water fell right next to the escape key and the screen went black.

It is not 100% black though, because if you pay close attention you can see that the desktop and images are still there, but it is obviously unusable as it is. Right now I´ve connected it to an external monitor to check that everything else is working fine.

Any advise on how to proceed? I already took it to a technician but I was told the entire screen had to be replaced and then that he could´t find the spare part.

Thanks

Sounds more like a problem with the screen than anything else. I doubt the water droplet had any kind of effect on it though. And not being able to find a replacement part? Pfft. He doesn't know how to google apparently lol there are plenty on eBay, and that was just a quick search.

Worse come to worse you can get one from Dell directly.

Thank you. The incident occurred almost at the precise moment that droplet fell on the keyboard. That´s why I assumed it was related. I wanted to narrow down possibilities before buying a new screen.

Well, I mean it's not a 100% guarantee that it wasn't the cause, but if water is going to short out something it wouldn't be the backlight of the screen I wouldn't think. Especially if it was dropped onto the keyboard. But with computers you never know! Do you have a monitor or tv you can plug into the computer just to make sure nothing happened? As long as it outputs the display properly, I would assume everything is fine with the output and the screen just went bad.

Yes, I connected it to an external monitor through an HDMI output and it works just fine.

Then yeah, I'm guessing either creepy coincidence, or you somehow did manage to only short out the backlight, which is damn impressive lol

OK then. I´ll see if I can get a replacement and post the result. Thanks for the help!
