So i purchased a LG BH16NS40 BR/DVD reader/writer and built it in my pc(based on a Asrock H87 Performance mainboard). Now at system start up the burner always does a electronic/rattling sound for about 1-2seconds. The sound only happens when i hardware-reboot my pc(read:turn pc off and press the power button) and not when i press "reboot" in Windows7.

Things i already did:
I set the harddrive the second priority for booting in my BIOS. My SSD is #1. Somehow nothing changed. Just for fun i left a DVD inside the harddrive, shut down the pc and restarted. After this i was able to see my "Enter BIOS Screen" a lot longer then usual.

The only thing i can think of is, that the pc still checks the harddrive for an OS to boot.

To make double-sure it's the new harddrive that causes the strange sound i unbuilt it and built my old cd/dvd-reader back in. ->Silence!

Might anyone be able to help me out?

EDIT: I used the term "harddrive" but what i mean is "DVD/BluRay burner-writer"!

My answer to this is just unplug the power to your DVD/BluRay when you dont use it.
It takes like 10 seconds to plug back in when you need it.
For my case i installed a dvd/drive to get my OS in and then i removed it.
Other than that it is a BIOS issue in my opinion.

There is a new BIOS version from Asrock available but it does only list these three things:
"1. Update Intel ME.
2. Hide Intel Turbo Boost Technology if CPU does not support this feature.
3. BIOS add "DRAM Performance Mode" option."
So i don't really think that will help a lot....
And how do you plug your internal drive back in within 10seconds :D I need to open my case and the like^^

Do you realy use your drive daily?
For me it is fast and easy just pop the back panel and it is right in my face. I use the Corsair Air 540 so the acces is super quick.
If you dont feel like spending a lot of time on this problem I suggest that you forget the BIOS and just unplug it :p

No I only use it every now and then for watching BluRays.
Someone on another board suggested using the FastBoot option of the BIOS. What do you think about that?
