I just built my computer and i wish i had funds for a SSD. If i do purchase one, is there anyway i can transfer windows onto the SSD and not loose everything i have installed?

Solution
Yes, but it depends.
To start, how big is this new SSD, and how much space is used on the current drive?

Most migration tools either:
1. Take the whole disk
2. One partition (the C)
3. The C, minus Documents/Music/etc. All that stuff in 'Libraries'

I believe there is one that says it will move only Windows, but it is a paid application.

The absolute best way is a fresh reinstall on the SSD.

Ok well that brings me up to my 2nd question

If i bought another HDD, can i move all my installs to the new hdd then. Then i can do a wipe on my old hdd and reinstall windows on SSD. Or would the fresh install delete everything on the new hdd also?

You could move them, but all links to the software would have to be re-created. For example, search indexing for that software would be have to done again manually.

Depending on the size of the SSD (120GB minimum), and what you use it for...

Gather all of your install disks and files
Disconnect all other drives
Install the OS on the SSD
Any updates
Verify Windows works on the new drive
Start installing all your applications. Some here, some there.

There are many other little tweaks if you do the SSD route. And I highly recommend you do...:)

Not really a headache. One day, and you're done.

If they are Steam or Origin games, you do not have to download them again. The folder SteamApps is where they all are.

See this for the general concept:

If they are regular standalone games, you should still have the original install file or DVD.
