I dropped my windows 7 laptop on its side recently and since then booting it up and logging in has taken between 10-30 minutes in normal mode to boot up. When it finally boots up in normal mode all I get is a black screen with the default cursor. I can move the cursor but cannot do anything, I can't even do ctrl+alt+delete so I have to hold the power button which brings up the 'windows wasn't turned off correctly' screen when I boot the thing up again. When I start it in safe mode it boots up and logs in quicker, but still slowly. In safe mode it loads the usual background and toolbar with icons. I have tried opening executable files in safe mode but most don't work. I don't know much about my computer aside from its a windows 7 laptop and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: I have been patient and the computer has come onto the logins screen, but without the login image or box to type the password in. The cursor is still visible and usable but nothing else.

Still, if you have only just started to experience this after dropping the computer, then it would indicate that something was damaged in the fall and it will cost you a lot less to get it fixed now, rather than when the whole system dies due to continued use with the issues.

Yeah, and what do you think the operating system is installed on?
The fact that it's taking longer to boot is a classic sign that the HDD is damaged and/or failing. It's struggling to access the boot files and directories because of the damage that it's sustained.
