Hello guys, this is my first post here ever.
I work a lot with pcs and building but never before had to build a new with uefi bios mobo.

My specs are :
Mobo: Gigabyte z87m-d3h
CPU: Intel haswell i5-4570
Mem: 2 x 4Gb gskill ripsawsX 1600Mhz
PSU: Seasonic G-550
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon 7870OC with 2Gb GDDR5

My problem is that my radeon is only functioning when settings in bios is for gpu pci-e 2.0. Any time i change settings either to pci-e 3.0 or Auto, the gpu isn't recognised at all having no signal on monitor at all. In that way only the integrated graphics work. When i change settings to pci-e 2.0, radeon is back and functional.

Does anybody else have same issues?

And another question is that when gpu is idle, settings in GPU-Z underclocked to pci-e 1.1 GPU core 300Mhz and memory 150Mhz . Is this something right or not? On load settings are allright at 1100Mhz core and 1200Mhz memory.

I also forgot to say that i flashed my bios on my rev 1.0 mobo from f6 to official f8 by gigabyte site and furthermore to F9a beta but none of them had solution to my problem

Are you using any other PCI-E slots?

Your idle settings for your graphics card are correct.

Theoretically, PCI-E 3.0 is faster than PCI-E 2.0, however in real-world usage, PCI-E 2.0 is fast enough for almost any single video card currently made, so you should be ok with PCI-E 2.0 for now.

Yes i know of course that i wouldn't gain FPS but this is makes me angry. I purchased some good parts and i have lost my mind and my sleep to make them function well. And also i'm very curious of what is wrong with pci-e 3.0 compatibility.

Sorry for not assuming a new account made yesterday knows everything about computers, a simple yes would suffice.

Answer the first question that cklaubur asked. (Are you using any other PCI-E slots)

Sorry but i forgot to tell you that i work with pcs for about 15 years and also building them for personal use. But i don't think i know everything about computers. And of course as i said before i haven't built any pc with uefi bios.

I am not using other pci or pci-e slots but i couldn't put my radeon to the other pci-e slot cause it doesn't fit.
I think that my problem is with Mobo and especially bios but i need another opinion if someone had this issue before

Quick question, in GPU-Z it does recognize that the card does want to use PCIe 3.0 right. it should say "PCI-E 3.0 x16 @x16 2.0".

If it says "PCI-E X.0 x16 @x16 1.1" then fire up the render test in the '?' next to the field, this will allow you to stress the card and it should bump itself up to 2.0 (or 3.0). My card is doing something similar atm... still benches the same.

It says "PCI-E 3.0 X 16 @ X16 1.1". If i start the render test it goes to 2.0. But this is my problem. It should be go to 3.0 if it was fully recognised. However is not.

Is your card recognised my bios at 3.0?

Yes it is, however I did have to go into the bios and change a couple of things. rebooted and bam, there it was, so the tool is fine in recognizing what's going on. I'm kind of at a loss at this point, and I am by no means the best person on these boards to be talking about Bios/GPUs.

As most have said the difference is negligible, but that's beside the point.

I can't seem to find anything online about the issue so it might be motherboard related. On my R9 290 I had a switch on the back right for "uber mode" or something like that, perhaps there is a switch somewhere to enable 3.0 on the card. otherwise it might be a mobo thing, although that seems unlikely.

When you say you change the settings to 3.0, do you mean you change the card manually to 3.0 in the bios, and don't enable the 3.0 support on the mobo, mine was a setting along the lines of Pcie Gen, and i set it to Gen3 or something like that.

Yes my friend this is the option i changed in bios. Pci-e Gen to 3.0. When i changed it and also if i change it to Auto the mobo doesn't recognise my card anymore. Furthermore if i disable at this point the integrated graphics the pc does not post. I have beep errors, 1 long 2 short that is mean gpu problem. If i have enabled integrated i can change the pci-e gen to 2.0 and Radeon is back and functioning. There is nothing like a button or switch nowhere to my mobo like yours. All the options are set to bios.

If I had to venture a guess I would say something is wrong with the motherboard, and that is assuming that you indeed are at the latest bios version. There is no reason that the integrated graphics would not work, it is simply failing to recognize it and initialize any Display adapters at that point.

Do you have a friend with a computer that supports pci-e 3.0 so you can just verify. It's always a shame when something like this happens, but I feel that if you can get it to show 3.0 anywhere else that is indeed the issue. Now I feel like you would be good at 2.0 for the time being, the only thing is that you have all the latest (z87) shit, so if you wanted to get another card in a few years, you never know if 3.0 will be fully utilized at that point.

Double check on another machine and RMA it if possible, otherwise I'm at a complete loss, sorry!
