(Newish) Computer Shutting Off Randomly

After about 3 months of enjoying my PC I am faced with a big problem. So I present it to you, the amazing [strike]spider-people[/strike] people here at Tom's Hardware.

Out of absolutely nowhere my computer turns off with no warning at all, as if someone pulled the plug, and then restarts giving me the typical message "Windows wasn't shut down properly etc. etc." and then proceeds to "process delta log records" and throw other fancy words at me.
Sometimes it happens when I'm playing some videogame, others when browsing the internet(although it appears to have been happening more frequently during heavy use lately, such as trying to change the settings on DayZ).

I would really like to know what is going on before my computer explodes

PC Specs:
i7 4770k
16 GB RAM
GTX 770 Twin Frozr Gaming
PSU: Corsair HX850 80PLUS Gold
Mobo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm
SSD(for caching): Sandisk 64GB
Windows 7 Home Premium

I would like to add that I installed SeaTools for Windows and got a "FAIL" test result instantly after it started the "Short Drive Self Test", so that's good news. Although, after running both the "Long Generic Test" and the "Short Generic Test" it supposedly passed. There's an option on the program to "Fix All", but it warns that I could lose data if I try to do it, and also that the way to verify if it worked is to run the long generic test, so should I try it?

Thanks in advance

Could it have anything to do with the fact that the computer is plugged into a 6-way extension which is itself plugged to a 3-way extension whose wire goes behind a lot of furniture and I don't remember where it's plugged into?

No, I haven't overclocked anything. Why?

After plugging both the monitor and the PC to a single extension, the problem persists. It's definitely got to be something related to power or heat if it only happens when the computer is under stress, and I don't think my temps are bad(my cores are always at least under 55 when I test them on RealTemp, although I can't really check it while I'm playing a game). At what temperature would they normally force a reboot?

It would be about 90, so youre way below. You can download coretemp and then see your temps in the task bar if you run your games in wondowed. Can you play for as long as possible until it freezes and then tell me what the temp is when it does?. And also are you using the power chord that came with your PSU. If not it may have the wrong amp fuse in it, so the PSU Is getting either not enough or too much power, causing it to shut down under load. This would make sense because under load it will draw more power.

Did that three times, the cores didn't go past 68º Celsius. I don't think it is temperature related since I got shut off twice while trying to write this. The power cord is the standard one, and I remind you that this only started to happen recently, so I would have had a problem before if that was indeed the problem(I did actually get a problem with BSoDs when I first built the rig, but that was fixed by setting the RAM to 1866Hz instead of the standard by enabling memory XMP in the BIOS(the box said that it had 1866, not 1600 and that was apparently a problem)

So, how can I test the PSU?

I don't think I can get a hand on a PSU, but I can get a multimeter. I also have no idea what to do with it

Thanks for all the help, but I fixed the problem. It turns out that the 24-pin wire going from the PSU to the mother board was not properly connected, it has separate 20-pin and 4-pin connectors, and the 4-pin one was not fully plugged into the MB, it must have sprung away because of the shape of the wire over time
Thanks to everybody for their time
