Hey everyone! I am going to buy the i7 4770k, but the question is, will it be enough to play games in max settings, 1080p, over 50fps all the time, for the next 3 years? (supposing i have two or three titans in sli). Or will the 4770k bottleneck?

That's processor will absolutely do. However if you only mean to game with your pc than i would suggest getting an i5 instead. The technology that i7 processors use over i5's is hyperthreading, which isn't used by games. Thus i7 wont perform a lot better in games than an i5.

You could follow Wolf's decision and get an i5 as it's cheaper. However a FX-8350 or FX-8320 is even cheaper, and could be even more futureproof as it posesses 8 cores at your disposal. We can already see games making use of more cores like BF4 for example.

What else are you going to get?

i7-4770k is the top of the LGA1150 spectrum. Only thing "better" is the i7-4960X based LGA2011 CPU... and to quote toms best CPU's for the money article:

"Although they sound impressive, those advantages (going to LGA2011 based system)don't necessarily translate into significant performance gains in modern titles. Our tests demonstrate fairly little difference between a $225 LGA 1155 Core i5-2500K and a $1000 LGA 2011 Core i7-4960X, even when three-way graphics card configurations are involved. It turns out that memory bandwidth and PCIe throughput don't hold back the game performance of existing Sandy Bridge-, Ivy Bridge-, and Haswell-based machines.

Where we do see the potential for Ivy Bridge-E to drive additional performance is in processor-bound games like World of Warcraft or the multiplayer component of Battlefield 4. If you're running a three- or four-way array of graphics cards already, there's a good chance that you already own more than enough rendering muscle. An overclocked Core i7-4960X or -4930K could help the rest of your platform catch up to an insanely powerful arrangement of GPUs."

Then you should look up some benchmarks as the 8350 is faster, sometimes faster than an i5. If you are doing this upgrade to play games you could simply save the money and go for something cheaper.

And.. An FX-8150 isn't really bad at all. You could probably use it for another year and upgrade your GPU instead if you need too.

Couple things (again using the CPU/money article here): http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

"You can use this hierarchy to compare the pricing between two processors, to see which one is a better deal, and also to determine if an upgrade is worthwhile. I don’t recommend upgrading your CPU unless the potential replacement is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel and you may not notice a worthwhile difference in game performance."

An 8150 is on the 2nd tier of processors... WTF is the point in upgrading your motherboard/CPU to get a slight increase? Wait a year or two and go i5-6500k (or drop in new AM3+ if still around) and be much happier (plus have more $ in your pocket for 2014).

If you want amd then I would get the 8350. I personally dont use AMD but my friends who do tell me that that processor is a beast for the money and works great in games.

Given that you're likely spending thousands of dollars (on titans or the like), I'd recommend a i7-4770K or i7-4930K, depending on budget. Few games currently use more than 4 cores, so an i5-4670K is a great option for gaming. MMOs and console ports tend to be CPU bound and the newer console ports are likely to use 6+ threads.

Rift and Crysis 2 are some of the games that run my i5-2500K at 100% utilization.

Lol, you should have mentioned that you're using that beast of a GPU in the beginning xD, i suppose that intel is a better a choice for now then.
