I have searched the forums, but couldn't find the right answer, as some say its ok and some say that CPU needs upgrading.

My system:
Asus M5A97 PRO S/L AMD Motherboard
AMD FX-6100 AM3+ 3.3GHz 14MB 95W Black Edition Six Core Processor, Currently clocked to 4.1 MHz (if clocked to 4.3, I get some stability issues)
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti 900MHz 1GB
Memory 12GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Samsung 128GB 830 Series 6Gb/s SSD
OCZ 650W PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler
PC case well ventilated

So is my CPU ok for R9 290 or should I upgrade it (I will be out of budget)? Or maybe I just go for R9 280x?

So I should be ok for a while, until I save up some $
Maybe I should get FX8 8320 or 8350 instead of FX 6350 later? [strike]Not sure if my mother board is compatible for 8 cores.. .[/strike]
Jus find out its compatible. I only have to upgrade bios

So anyway, will FX8 will be much better than FX6 ?

I play ARMA3 and Dayz SA and at the moment my frames are pathetic :(

are you planning to do any video editing if not, then i suggest just by the 6350 now that will save you have to rebuy another cpu :)

I will check if the mobo is compatible for you but if it isnt you can always do bios flash :)

I play arma 3 aswell and my 8350 struggles, but I with short view distances of 1500m it plays just above 32fps

No video editing.
Some say that Arma series including Dayz SA is very CPU dependent. But I am not sure if more cores are going to help much.. What would you recomend for CPU, to fit my MOBO ? 200 euro budget max.

For ARMA
CPU_03.png

your cpu would sit between a 4100 and an 8150.
putting in an r9 290 would help but major cpu bottleneck, it would be pointless. better sticking with a r9 270x

Or Will I still get r9 290 now and FX8350 later? I am thinking of Crossfire after a year or so..
270x is ok for my FX 6100, but I will also going to get a new CPU after a couple of months.

if your using a single monitor you wont need 2 290's in crossfire for a long time, nor do i think an fx 8350 is enough to support 2 of them unless your running triple displays or 4k to utilize the 2 cards, you really want to go with an intel setup if you want to run rel high end video cards. For you i would stick with 1 r290 and an 8350, that
should see you through a few years. your motherboard isnt really good for OC'ing an 8350, nor your psu if you also get a 290, so if you were thinking about oc'ing the 8350 you would be getting another motherboard in which case you may as well just switch to intel for better gaming performance and better efficiency. was also wondering whats up with the 12gb ram? are you running 4 sticks ram? if your running 3 then your not running in dual channel which will cost you FPS in many games.

R9 280x + 6350

R9 290 + 8350

the bottleneck will mostly likely occur in older games, but I think if you run
games like bf4, that utilise more cores you shouldnt suffer much

I have the r9 280x and arma 3, arma 2, gta iv (poorly optimised)
are the only games I play below 60fps, I have a ton of games on my
pc including BF4/3, Tomb raider, Bioshock/1,2 infinite etc and they all game above 60fps. So yeah grab the r9 280x and you will have funds to stick on a water cooler to your 6100 and push it up a little bit by overclocking if you so wish to.

If you are going to use the same motherboard you will need to update your bios to BIOS version 1605 or above!

There is just one problem left... There is no r9 280x in Ireland lol
Dabs out of stock, other sites are order upon request (that means you order and then we get it for you after a month or so) and ebay is way to overpriced with its postage fees, and it doesnt have Asus :(

or the equivalent nvidia gtx 770.
http://www.techspot.com/review/712-arma-3-benchmarks/page4.html
which actually is a lot better specifically for arma 3 (280x is same as 7970 ghz on the chart)

They get restocked quite often,

There's no problem with the R9 290. It's a great card. As you upgrade the rest of your system, your R9 290 will get upgraded with it.

That GPU packs a punch and often trades blows with the nVIDIA Titan. That just means that in titles where you're CPU bottlenecked (there won't be many if you're running an AMD FX-6350) you can always raise the image quality without incurring a performance penalty. Like the AA level for instance.

Alright Chuck Norris!

But there is no point of getting r9 290 for a single monitor, it will just result in screen tearing and many other screen atificates

The Sapphire card isnt too bad but its probably one of the noisiest of the r9 280x series, I would personally get the gigabyte variant or just wait a little bit longer for the MSI one to come in stock

Well I decided. I will go for the Sapphire. I dont mind the noise, as long as it runs well. I wear headphones all the time anyways. And the price is really good for this one. Spec are the same as Asus wich is about 30 euro more. Will buy me a new mouse pad for about 20 euro and a hdmi cable for 10 :)
Thanks for your replays .

May I ask where you're getting this information from? Do you mean that the frames per second will be too high creating tearing? That's usually what happens when your GPU and monitor refresh rate are highly out of sync. A solution to that is simple. Leave the default vSync settings of games untouched.

Also games like Battlefield 4 already tap the R9 290s power. So even on a single Monitor you're not getting insane frames.

did you read the benchmark i linked? the gtx770 does a lot better in the games you want to play, and is priced similar to the 280x.
