Title says it all. I just installed it as I would normally install any CPU and System Information says that It's running a bit slow. Does anyone have any ideas what could the problem be and how to go about solving them?

More about : purchased amd 8350 0ghz cpu running 8ghz

first what mobo do you have, is the cpu supported? I would say either a its not supported or b your mobo need a bios update most likely to support it and get the correct settings

What are you doing when its running at 2.8? it could just be power saving, if you're just browsing around and stuff.

You have to run a program which pushes your CPU and see if it goes to its 4ghz (Modern processors dynamically change their speed giving you more of it when you really need and less when you don't). Also check if you're not using any energy saver or overclock program.

If none of this help you'll have to check your motherboard BIOS to see if your clock are at stock.

forgot about that power saving junk, i still think it only should downclock to 3.5 or something close to that and clock to the turbo when needed

When i got my 8350, it fluctuated between 1.4Ghz and 4.0Ghz depending on what i was doing. I ended up just taking out those power saving options.

The downclock could be even bigger, my FX-6100 downclocks to 1.4Ghz using EPU Engine (power saver software from Asus) and I can't see difference when putting it to it's full 3.9Ghz (when I'm browsing and not using any heavy program, of course). But it really helps to keep the processor cool when I'm not using it giving it a longer lifetime and allowing me to stress it for a longer period when I really need.

I would try an aftermarket cooler, the fx 8350's stock cooler has been known to limit the speed because it can't keep the cpu cool enough.
