Hi all,

I was wondering if you guys could shed some light on this. I am currently looking to upgrade my system, but I am in the age old dilemma of if I should upgrade to more expensive newer hardware and wait, or buy older hardware that is better than what I have. Here is what I currently have:

ASUS P5QL PRO, Core 2 Duo E8400 @ Stock Speed, 8GB DDR2-800 RAM, 120GB Intel SSD, 1TB WD Blue, XFX 650W PSU, Gigabyte Radeon HD 7790 OC (new)

I am having problems playing some of the new games, because I believe they are all made for quad core cpus. Here is what I am thinking of getting:

Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 AMD870 ATX AM3 DDR3
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition AM3 3.4GHZ (NOT OVERCLOCKED)
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus
Corsair XMS3 CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 4GB DDR3 2X2GB DDR3-1600
All used for $155

Or alternatively, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield CPU used for $130 (which works with my system I believe), or Intel Extreme Core 2 Quad QX9750 Processor 3.16Ghz Yorkfield for $150.

And finally: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 6 core AM3+ CPU AND ASUS M4A89GTD-Pro/USB3 AM3+ mobo for $120. (I think the mobo only has beta support for AM3+ though?)

I don't want to come off as getting you to do my research for me, I just wanted some advice on whether any of these are a good idea. Also, is it a good idea to buy CPU's and other pc components used, or is that something that you just don't do? Are these substantial upgrades over what I already have?

Thank you very much for your assistance :D

Interesting. Can you confirm that the 1055T would work with the ASUS M4A89GTD-Pro/USB3? Could you also recommend some RAM for this board?

I really appreciate the help! :D

Thanks again. Does this part concern me? "AMD AM3 100 and 200 series CPU support up to DDR3 1066MHz". I am very bad with RAM lol.

Just on a side note, how would the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield CPU compare against the e8400? Would it give me a good performance boost? Reason I ask is I would MUCH rather use a CPU that is compatible with my current system. Also, could it be oc'd to 3ghz quite easily?
