i applied some new thermal paste - AS5 a 4-5mm blob in the middle of the cpu because i thought i should try to get lower temps about 30 minutes ago so then i had 34-35c lowest temp i think when i booted up then i was on my computer for about 5-10 minutes trying to see what temps i i would get by opening the game facade lots untill my computer wouldnt let me, then i restarted and then i run the blend test. after about 5-10 minutes then i was watching the temps on CPUID hw monitor and it was 80c bordering on 81c so i stopped the test and right now the temps are 45c on hottest core (core 1) usually the hottest core is core0 though. is it maybe just because i literally just applied thermal paste??? im not overclocked or anything its all stock
my specs:
cpu: intel core 2 quad q6600 (socket 775)
cpu cooler: arctic cooling 7 pro rev 2
gpu: amd radeon hd 6670 2gb ddr3
exhaust fan: arctic cooling f9
intake fan: arctic cooling f12
case: envizage k5 with 500w psu fitted
mobo: intel dg35ec
ram: 5gb ddr2-667
could it be a faulty heatsink?
..about another 10 minutes later and the temps have dropped to around 44c (core 1) i think that room temp is about 25c
if i need to get a new heat sink do you have any recommendations for socket 775?
also what thermal compound should i use?
also while this was happening i had the case side door off.
i tried it again... it went from about 45c (core 1) to 82c (core 0) in SIX minutes with prime95 blend
