Some intel chip sets, including the H87 , have a technology called smart response .
Essentially you set up a kind of RAID array in BIOS where the commonly used program and data is cached in the SSD , but everything is also on the hard drive
The SSD is limited to a max of 60 gig [ from memory ] and even 40 gig is easily big enough . This set up is only a little slower than a pure SSD boot drive
That would be the way i would set up a small SSD since the the OS sees both drives as one and you dont have to try any of the registry hacks that people use to convince windows the data drive is a virtual folder on the SSD
